Waltz

Time seems to slow down as the murmur of the crowd fades to silence.  Silently at first and slowly raising in a slow crescendo, a waltz begins to play. The crowd starts to pair up and walk away from the tables to the dance floor. You make eye contact from across the room and nod in agreement of the unasked question. You approach slowly with hesitation and self-consciousness, knowing that there is still time to walk away without meeting them. A tightness begins to form in your stomach, nerves are starting to make your mind wander.  Your palms are clammy.
'What if I am clumsy? Maybe they were nodding at someone else' you think to yourself.
They smile as you walk up, and ask "May I?"
You grin back and reply, "Of course."
The dance beings. In perfect harmony, the give and take of the dance consumes more and more of your mind. You don't know this person, but as the dance continues that ceases to matter. You have become a perfect complement of each other, a give and take that runs deeper than can be described. It is as though the rest of world has disappeared. The idea that only a few minutes ago, you were nervous seems preposterous now. That person no longer exsists. Confidently the dance progresses, the music continues, and you hope the moment never ends.
